Critique, rhetoric of beginnings
The article retraces the beginnings of the review Critique and analysis the texts (editorials, advertising, notes to the readers, etc.) in which it presents and defines itself. One distinguishes its growing singularity, its special caracteristics among these its bibliographical principles, its denial of political engagement, its obvious interest regarding foreign books. One observes also its « function of representation » Critique attributes to itself regarding the history of ideas and its mediating role between the different kinds of erudition of the professionels and the cultivated, between France and the other countries.
