Reviews and hypermedia
The digitilizing and the development of hypermedia are at the origine of electronic libraries. Within this framework, the experiences of digitilizing periodicals can serve as a model given their hypertextualized medium which underlines the specificity of networks in the scientific community and the specific type of publication which constitutes the activity of periodicists.
The project of digitilizing the Revue de Synthèse is a good opportunity to describe pragmatically the problems that arise and what is at stake when trying to establish an electronic corpus of periodicals. The future development and standardization of computer assisted reading tools remains to be seen.
