The article is the story of cultural journals in Sweden from the 17th century onwards.
Constantly looking towards continental Europe for intellectual inspiration, and simultaneously vindicating Swedish characteristics and talents, they were particularly remarkable in the 1930s and 1960s. Despite present economic difficulties, they still hold a privileged position, on the edge between national and international cultures.
