Italian magazines in crisis

Essential elements in the intellectual life of the 1950’s, today the magazines are being dethroned by the news and special editions published by the large dailies. Between the older, academic publications, maintaining their reputation (Belfagor, Humanitas…) and other, more recent, demonstrating imagination and invention (MicroMega, Linea d’Ombra…), two tendancies characterize the recent evolution of italian magazines : the appearance of numerous magazines in the provinces and the popularity of literary criticism magazines (L’indice, Millelibri). According to the author, the crisis of italian magazines is less linked to the question of economic survival than to their role in the country’s cultural life.
